How to hail a taxi

QR code in Singapore taxi cab

🚕 Did you know that classic taxi stands are alive and even thriving in Singapore?! You don’t need to call a taxi, it’s already waiting for you near popular places! Or, you stand in line waiting for a free taxi. Most buildings have a special spot: a taxi stand. It’s a designated “pocket” where cars can pull in.

🙋‍♂️ Also, you can hail taxis right off the street in Singapore! Yes, indeed! Just like the good old days — you step onto the side of the road, wave your hands and whistle! And, if a taxi is free, it will stop and you can get in.

💵 If you’ve hailed a taxi on the street, you can pay with cash or a card. But my favorite method is paying via the QR code in the car. It works like this: you get into the car or hail it on the street (called a street hail), open the taxi stand app and scan the QR code inside the taxi. Bingo! Your card is linked and the money is deducted automatically.
